About PlugMap

Our Mission

PlugMap was built with a single goal: to make finding a public EV charger as quick and as painless as possible. Range anxiety and the fear of being stranded without charge is one of the biggest barriers stopping people from switching to electric vehicles. We believe that barrier disappears the moment drivers know exactly where to charge — that's what PlugMap provides.

We're part of a bigger movement. Globally, people are more committed than ever to ending the sale of new petrol and diesel cars, and the success of that commitment depends on millions of drivers making the switch to electric. The infrastructure is already there — over 60,000 public charge points across the UK alone — but it's only useful if people can find it. That's where we come in.

Electric vehicles produce zero tailpipe emissions. When charged on renewable electricity, which is increasingly the norm as most national grids become greener, they represent a genuinely low-carbon form of transport. Switching from a petrol or diesel car to an EV is one of the single biggest steps an individual can take to reduce their personal carbon footprint.

PlugMap exists to remove friction from that switch. The easier it is to charge, the more people drive electric. The more people drive electric, the faster we move away from burning fossil fuels. It's a simple chain and we are proud to be one small, but useful, link in it.

How PlugMap Works

We source our data from OpenChargeMap, the world's largest open database of EV charging locations, maintained by a global community of contributors and operators. Our database currently covers 15,532+ charge points across 441 UK towns and cities with details on connection types (CCS, CHAdeMO, Type 2), charging speeds, and operator information — but we have plans to expand beyond the UK.

Not all charge points are the same. PlugMap colour-codes and labels every location so you know what you're getting:

Rapid chargers (50kW+):

add 100+ miles of range in under 30 minutes. Ideal for motorway stops.

Fast chargers (7–50kW):

full charge in 2–4 hours. Great for car parks, supermarkets, and leisure centres.

Standard charge points (<7kW):

overnight charging at hotels, workplaces, and residential areas.
